Cleverly, Miller took a classic track, paid his respects and created a signature version of his own: at 3'23", he takes the track off on a tangent with a funky fingerstyle groove on a five-string bass. Moons is another fretless tour de force, where Marcus capably proves that those who think he's just a slap monster are very much mistaken.

Marcus Miller. Slap bass doesn't always have to be played at fast tempos, as the man in the pork pie hat has proven many a time. Marcus Miller's smooth, jazz tinged, funky neo soul grooves give you a chance to soak up his awesome punchy slap tone, right before he unleashes a blur of notes that will leave you wondering if there's anything he

Actually, I am a fan of the sound of slap on flat-wounds! I don't slap much on the bass in my avatar, though. It's a 5-string with a wide neck. I'm learning slap on nickel rounds, with humbuckers: a Yamaha TRBX304. Plenty bright, but not a J bass, to be sure. Action is great though: just did my own fret-job. The weak-link is my playing, not my

When slapping or popping, attack by rotating your hand at the wrist only, moving your thumb toward the stings when slapping and pulling your finger (s) away from the strings when popping. Make sure not to rotate your hand more than 30 degrees in either direction, you will be faster and get less fatigued.

ADMIN MOD. What does r/bass thing about Marcus Miller? Slap bass is a pretty big hobby of mine, (I love to do it when I'm alone, but the sort of music I play with my main band a 90s-style indie rock outfit doesn't really have a place for it), and I like to look to people like Larry Graham, Les Claypool, and Nate Phillips for slap influence.

The slap bass makes it sound very big. One reason that live versions are somewhat unsatisfying (to me, anyway) is that the Heavy Weather version just sounds huge. Jaco played three drum tracks on it, for one thing: the basic groove, a hi-hat overdub, and snare fills.

Mediocrity Man Master of Mediocrity. Apr 11, 2014. Wantage, New Jersey. Just put a set of Dunlop Super Bright Marcus Miller 45 to 105's on my Spector ReBop 4dlx. This bass loves stainless steel strings for some reason. Nice deep low end with solid mids. A little crisp on the top end but not overly bright. The bass growls like a beast now.

The usually forget to learn Marcus Miller lines lol. Reply reply ... I'd like to figure it out at some point, but, for now, it's super hard and I don't know why. Reply reply ... I find getting an accurate slap hard because i havent really practised it, rythm and pops arent that hard but accurately slapping on a 5 string is annoying asf
