I just played some 16ths on the MFX analog modelling bass synth and then tried some quantise. it seemed that if I lowered the strength under 50% and the rate under 50% it carried out ... probably one of the best examples i've seen of using the MV. MV filters have that classic Roland's samplers and synths filters behavior and indeed works nice for that kind of enhancement. Any synth, sampler, mixing desk or standalone filter would do the trick in fact, if setted well to enhance bass response. It is not an MV related tip only but a general synthesis and mixing tip that works, indeed.

Have 2 8000's. I also have an asr, mpc3000, 2000xl, and a 4000. The mv8000 sounds better than all of them. Even the 3000!!! I don't use them all at the same time of course. They are all in different locations that I work at. The 8000 has a very good sequencer and incredible effects. Also I'm starting to get into the synth bass side of it more!!

Each of the 128 MIDI tracks can be assigned to one of the 16 internal instruments, one of 32 external MIDI channels (or 48 with peripherals), or both simultaneously. Select the track from the main screen and both the pads and any MIDI messages received on the MIDI in are automatically sent to that track's assignment.

My mate has one (8000). I have a MPC 4000. So I can compare both. I personally find navigating in the MPC more logical and faster. I miss the "window" hey on the MV. The FX on the MPC are shite compared to the FX on the MV. Therefore the sampler in the MPC 4000 is vastly superior to the sampler in the MV imho.

I have lost hope for finding a reasonably priced MV8-OP1 output expansion board for Roland's MV-8800. :(So I've been toying around with this idea of using expansion board from some other sampler make/model.Basically, output expansions like the MV8-OP1 is just a collection of DAC's for outputs, and some other stuff like digital inputs and R-BUS, which are not relevant here.

Not to mention the VGA option, onboard FX, 120 GB harddrive I installed, etc etc And to actually answer the original question: If money is tight, just get the 8000. The 8800 only has a few extra features. But if you can't find a VGA output anywhere for the 8000, THEN maybe think about the 8800. Because the VGA option is priceless.
