Pickle GL is good for "slashlance" no shelling build. For a more typical gunlance experience you probably want to use the Royal Burst (fullburst lance), or ES Magda Lahat (charged shell lance). There's no shell-4 wide lances so until KT Seige hits PC you basically just use whatever if you want a shell spam GL.

If you have any Long 3 Gunlance, use it in preference to the Royal Burst. You won't be doing Full Bursts. I know I do that in the video, but only when Deviljho is down. You won't miss the extra 30 or 40 damage on the FB combo. It is much worse at Charged Shot. You'll be losing at least that much per shot compared to a Long 3 Gunlance.

Point is, Deviljho's Gunlance is bad. You can only semi-legitimise its use as a standard Long Gunlance spamming charged shells, since this playstyle does not involve poking, or the utilisation of Gunlance's raw damage; All it cares about for damage is the shelling level, of which Deviljho's GL is 6: the highest for Long Gunlances.

I am the Lance that will pierce the heavens. Short answer: Yes. Long answer: It is the best dragon element lance and one of the best lances if you are too lazy to change builds to tailor the weaknesses of the monster (s) you are about to fight. I think it depends on what you need from your lance.

Its one of the best for melee style gameplay without shelling. All Jho weapons have great raw, so you can never go wrong with them. For just hitting things it's great. For shelling it's decidedly meh. I think the Deviljho Gunlance is basically the Gunlance you use without actually using the "Gun" part of it, basically.

Gunlance has more depth to it with all 3 shelling types, so there's more build variety. Both weapons have advanced tech like pivot hopping which gives them added depth.
