Roland produced the MC-808 to provide users with everything they need for song production to performance. It is a combination of synthesizer and sampler and also features a built-in sequencer. Roland already established themselves as a leader in the field when it comes to designing a great groovebox with their MC-909. Although the MC-808 was released after the MC-909, it is more of a scaled

Guests. Posted January 1, 2009. I have both and think the MC-909 is a better choice. The larger display, knobs and SRX expansion make it a great all in one writing tool. If you need to do more extensive loop tweaking use Logic and then transfer them into the MC-909 via USB. The MC-808 has a lot of MC-909 sounds in it as well as some newer

The MC-808´s main features are eight motorised faders and 16 drum pads (which double as keyboard keys for playing synth patches) lined up horizontally. There are some transport controls, a couple of knobs (volume and input level), jog wheel and a large number of buttons. From a performance point of view, there is also the famous D-Beam and a

I picked up this MC-808 Groovebox a little while back, it's my first "serious" synth I suppose (I have a pocket operator and a monotron) and it's taken me a while to get my head around all the functions of this thing.

If you would like it as an midi production tool with some sample enhancements i find it a dream.

By default, when triggering the MC-808 via MIDI, part 1 responds to MIDI channel 1, part 2 responds to channel 2, and so forth. Instead, you can make the MC-808 automatically route its MIDI input to control the currently selected part. This way, you don't have to constantly change your keyboard controller's MIDI channel.

The TR-808 and TR-909 played a major role in the development of the early, rough-edged techno sound by Detroit icons the Belleville Three - Derrick May, Jaun Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. When we spoke to him in 2013 , Saunderson credited the 808 and 909 as being responsible for the swing of those early house and techno tunes.

The sounds, ease of use and incredible features make this a great tool to create music with. Being a guy who prefers computer sequencing and sampling I was a little apprehensive to try a pattern-based groove-box.
