Hello, New Model:Samples owner here, my first piece of Elektron gear. So far i'm loving it…simple workflow, very fun. Seems to work better with melodic one shots, but as a hip hop head i would really like to use longer samples from tunes i source on youtube etc. I know we can't chop samples, but using sample start and p-locking can give a similar feel. It looks like on Reverb, the Digitakt is going for ~$600-650, and the Samples for ~$230-275. So if you have about $300 now, you could get the Samples now and use it. Save up the other $300 in the interim, and when you have it, sell the Samples and buy the Digitakt. This is probably what I would do if I had no idea whether the Elektron workflow

The flexibility of the sequencer and sampler makes the digitakt useful in almost any electronic music genre. For me, it has become my go-to drum machine and it is my first choice when sequencing hardware synths, but when it was my only sampler it performed admirably. Really great for making any kind of strange glitchy or droney samples.

Reviews on the Elektron model sample are pretty good, but it has no amp envelope and limited LFO capabilities. It's a good groovebox but maybe not so much for chill ambient pads. There may be some workarounds and firmware updates though. Do yourself a favour and watch loopop's overview video.
