FWW gave the nod to the Lie-Nielsen. Can't see how either are worth $125, though. Their best value was a $15 guide that I have used for years and it is more than adequate. I actually got that one from Lie-Nielsen many years ago. See this month's Fine Woodworking. It has a review of both plus many other honing guides.

Veritas - Mk.II Sharpening System (Rating: 2) Overall, the Veritas MKII leaves something to be desired and is not worth the price. There are three main issues that I found with the system: 1. Not so big of an issue: The time sacrifice it takes to setup is time better spent woodworking. It is isn't terribly painful to set up, but it does take a

Review: Veritas Mk II Honing Guide - Machine Atlas

https://machineatlas.com/reviews/review-veritas-mk-ii-honing-guide/
My final verdict. The Veritas Honing Guide Mk II is an excellent tool, and a class above most cheaper guides. It can be a bit fiddly to set up at first, but when you know how to use it, you can get your blade ready to hone within a minute. It is easy to set the angle you want, easy to align your blade to be square, and comfortable to use.

Lie-Nielsen - Honing Guide Review - FineWoodworking

https://www.finewoodworking.com/2016/02/10/honing-guide
At first glance, Lie- Nielsen's new honing guide looked a lot like my generic guide, and I wondered if there was any reason to justify the extra cash. Turns out there are a few really good reasons. First off, the workmanship is fantastic. The stainless-steel and bronze construction will guarantee that rust won't be an issue.

The Lie-Nielsen is simpler to use, requires less fiddling and holds tools with a vise-like grip. Plus, a variety of additional jaws (sold separately) allow you to hold odd-shaped tools and get precise edges. The guide is simpler because it has only one opening to grip both chisels and plane irons. The Eclipse has two.

That said - Im absolutely frustrated that I cant hone my Veritas spokeshaves on the thing. On top of that, I've found that Im tiring of the setup and futzing around with it. A friend recommended the LN honing guide to me because they sell the longer arms that will work with spokeshave blades. All in all - it seems heavier duty - simpler - and

Improved Side Clamping Honing Guide? - Sawmill Creek

I've been spending far too much time lately in the sharpening/ honing guide rabbit hole. It seems that the Lie-Nielsen honing guide is great for LN products, but doesn't always accept the geometry found with other manufacturers. The Veritas MK II system seems more versatile, but some people seem to have consistency problems. The $15 generic side clamping honing guides seem like they can be
