Only then was it upgraded again by the current Leica lens designer, Peter Karbe with the introduction of the 50mm f/0.95 and most recently the amazing 75mm Noctilux f/1.25. Stopped down, the Noctilux is incredibly sharp. Wide open, it has a painterly effect, at f/1.4 its sharpens up a lot, and by f/4 to f/8 its as sharp as any other Leica lens.

The Leica Noctilux f/1.0 - Gary Voth

The current f/1.0 Noctilux was designed in Canada and first introduced in 1976. This lens, now using all spherical glass elements, is a better performer at smaller apertures while retaining its special characteristics wide open. Leica has offered this design over the years in two or three different barrel configurations.

If you had to choose today: Noctilux f1 vs Noctilux f1.2 - Leica M

https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/382422-if-you-had-to-choose-today-noctilux-f1-vs-noctilux-f12/
It has the built-in hood which is handy vs toting around a clip on lens hood. I think 50/1 is sharper wide open and does better F1.2, but at F1.4 my 50 Lux ASPH's are sharper. If going for the wide-open look, my vote would be the 50 Lux ASPH (version I, not the new close focus one). The 50 Lux ASPH is cheaper & easier to find too.

Summilux 50mm f1.4 asph on both digital and film, the special thing about this lens is that, when you focus down to 0.7m to 0.8m the depth of field is kind of similar to Noctilux and the bokeh is just perfect. Canon 50mm f1.2 LTM is also a special lens in my heart since it performs really well on both digital and film.

Why I love my Leica Noctilux f/0.95/50 | Amateur Photographer

https://amateurphotographer.com/review/love-leica-noctilux-f0-9550/
The Noctilux, meaning 'light of the night', began its life in 1966 as an f/1.2 lens designed by Helmut Marx. A new design by Dr Walter Mandler in 1976 pushed the aperture to f/1. This version continued until it was replaced in 2008 by the current f/0.95 Aspherical Noctilux, which was designed by Peter Karbe. Edmond Terakopian.

Finally got my dream lens: Noctilux f/1.0 : r/Leica - Reddit

Finally got my dream lens: Noctilux f/1.0 I've always been a sucker for character lenses with a shallow depth of field, and finally got the ultimate one. The lens is expensive enough that I don't have a Leica body yet, so apologies for the Sony Ξ±7C showing itself here.

If you're a total bokeh maniac, two of the lenses you've probably looked at with yearning are the Leica Noctilux 50mm f/0.95 and the Nikon Noct 58mm f/0.95.

The magic of the Leica Noctilux F1 lens | Steve Huff Hi-Fi and Photo

There are some classic lenses that come close to the Noctilux, like the Hexanon 60 F1.2 and the Noct Nikkor for Nikon. But for Leica, this Noctilux F1 is the low-light prince (the king is the new 0.95 version). This is the third Noctilux I have owned. The first was in 2002-2003 when I bought a new-in-box Noct from B&H Photo for $2995.

Both lenses are far from perfect when it comes to image quality but this is about bokeh. And the Canon 50mm f/1.2 is one L-of-a lens (alright, no more lame puns). Taken with Canon 50mm f/1.2L 1.Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH. There could be only one. Undoubtedly one of the craziest lenses ever made. When f/1.0 isn't enough, there's the

Leica 50mm f/0.95 ASPH Noctilux-M Review and Bokeh Worship - 35mmc

https://www.35mmc.com/18/08/2019/leica-50mm-f-0-95-noctilux-m-asph-review/
Well first, the Noctilux is a beast of a lens. It weighs in at 700 grams, and its length is just over 7.5 centimeters. It's diameter is 7.3 centimeters give or take and it takes an E60 filter. It is like putting a medium sized DSLR lens on a Leica M body, except the Noctilux is heavier than most DSLR lenses.

Leica's new Noctilux-M 75mm is an f/1.25 lens with amazing bokeh

https://www.australianphotography.com/news/leica-s-new-noctilux-m-75mm-is-an-f/1-25-lens-with-amazing-bokeh
According to Leica, the depth of field at f/1.25 is just a hairs-breadth. This is only the fourth Noctilux lens ever and only the second released this century, following the Noctilux-M 50mm F0.95 ASPH released in 2008. ... including a shallower depth of focus than that of the Noctilux-M 50 mm f/0.95 APSH. and a close focusing distance of 0.85m
