I had and used heavily the Performax 16-32 for over five years. At the time it was the only affordable drum sander available that also had good reviews. It eventually wore out. I had a machinist make me a few replacement parts to keep it going for a while and was about to buy a new one when the Supermax came out with the 19-38.

So many of my wood working friends find it hard to believe that a Laguna Tool can have this many problems. Also the stand had 3/8" carraige bolt holes and 1/4" carraige bolts. If I lift the Drum sander off the floor the legs will do a hula. The 1/4? carraige bolts spin in the hole when tightened. You don't have to worry about grammer or

It's a great feature. I too debated between the Supermax and the Jet. The Supermax was a little more expensive but had a few more features standard. The quick adjust handle for overall drum height is only on the Supermax 16-32, not the Supermax 19-38. I recently bought a Supermax 19-38 and it's all hand-cranking.

Dec 31, 2018. #1. I purchased an entire shop and was so pleased to acquire 3 pieces of machinery in particular: a 5 HP Powermatic table saw, a Laguna 16" band saw, and a Performax 16-32 drum sander. I used the Performax for the 1st time and had a serious problem with it that is not covered in the troubleshooting info in the owner's manual.
