Docking. Docking was officially introduced in KSP 0.18 and allows separate ships to join into a single entity that is controlled as one and allows the transfer of resources and Kerbonaut between connected modules. To get close enough to even consider docking, you'll need to perform an orbital rendezvous .

Then right-click on your target docking port and use "set as target" (if the target vessel has multiple docking ports, use the left/right buttons in DPAI). At this point, you can try turning on MechJeb's auto-pilot. Alternately, use MechJeb's Smart A.S.S. and pick "TGT" then "PAR-". That will orient your craft to be lined up with the docking port.

Control the target craft, right click the intended docking port and select "Control from here". Double click the active craft to select it as target. Right click the intended docking port on the active craft and set that as target. Click the target SAS button and wait for it to align.

Pro tip: if you have reaction wheels, and a pilot/probe core on both craft, then here's what you do: Right click the docking port you want to dock from on your first craft and click "control from here," next right click the docking port on the other craft you want to dock to and click "set as target," after that turn on SAS and choose the option to point towards the target, and finally press

So this is the most efficient way to dock, using the least amount of fuel, and also it's pretty realistic. It takes more time than the "fast" docking, but you don't need that much fuel and your relative velocity will be quite low.

Step 1 - Matching orbits. To match your orbit you will first need to match the inclination of the ship's orbit with that of the target. To do this, launch at the time of day when the launch pad is underneath the orbital path of the target. Once you've reached a comfortable altitude, burn in the direction the target will be going when it reaches

dockingPort.cfg. The Clamp-O-Tron Docking Port is a port used for docking of two spacecraft. It is usually used to dock medium-sized craft. It is not very sturdy if used in large craft. The Clamp-O-Tron Sr. Docking Port is better suited for this usage. Another way to connect two large craft without using the Sr. is to use multi-port docking.

Chibbity Jan 10, 2017 @ 5:43am. From the KSP wiki: Docking ports. There are six docking ports available for different sizes and docking directions. In order to dock two spacecraft, both must be equipped with docking ports of equal size. When constructing a spacecraft, another part which is not a docking port can be placed on it.

Then when you're close, choice is. 1. switch to each of the ships, set the other's docking port as target, approach and dock. 2. if you can't turn target (it's a huge space station), switch camera to chase mode, align and dock. Docking in KSP is tolerant to up to 30 degrees of axis misalignment and maybe more.

Put two probe cores with RCS and docking ports on them into orbit together and practice your approach and docking (use the set orbit cheat and infinite propellant if you want ) until it makes more sense and you can reliably dock them together. It took a lot of clever people doing a lot of number-crunching and at least one failed mission before

Now enable RCS. Remember that while in docking mode, you cannot turn the ship, only rotate it. So before you move in to dock, stop about 50m away of the target by setting your relative speed to .00m/sec. Switch to the first ship and make sure its docking port is facing back at the second craft (use the bracket keys do this easily). Step 5: Docking

Then, try to align the docking port on your vehicle with the docking port on the station, at least visually, based on approximations—you will align everything more precisely as you go. Set the docking port on the station as the target. Engage your thrusters to move slowly towards the docking port and observe how the thrusters are working.

In order to rendezvous and then dock, you need to match velocities with the object that you want to dock with. By doing that, you pretty much create an almost identical orbit with the second object. KSP example: If my Space Station is orbiting at 100x100km and I launch a ship to dock with it from KSC.

A major issue, putting a a small set of landing struts on a craft repeatedly causes the craft to explode and undergo rearrangement during ascent. Craft not staying together. Again is this a part issue or processing issue. If docking ports routinely and randomly fell off their root parts, then its a part issue.
