Japanese games just make stuff how they like, then leave the explanation for afterwards. Or just have no explanation. Western games put the explanation first. Maybe western games are more about the 'why' and japanese games are more about the 'why not'. Just generally speaking, of course. But I think this is a part of what makes a game 'Japanese'.

No not really. Back in the 80s/90s most games would get a day 1 Mac port or get ported shortly after. For example all the Quake games came out on Mac pretty close to the PC. They are also able to join PC servers and the like. Also obligatory Marathon mention. That game is great and was actually exclusive to Mac.
