That is the best idea. Half Life is fantastic, it's the first game I ever truly finished. Black Mesa is an excellent tribute, sticking to history where I think it matters, and altering the game where I think improvements could be made. But "doesn't have an ending" is an incomplete synopsis. Black Mesa is missing about 25% of the story.

Ok Black Mesa is not cannon. Half-Life 2 and Half-Life Alyx both have elements that don't line up with Black Mesa. For example look at Gman's speech in episode 2. Or the way the Xen infested areas look in Alyx. The Half-Life games were made with the first game in mind. Plus if Black Mesa was cannon what would that make Half-Life 1?
