This is maybe not going to help you but going to KICL language school in Japan helped me. My classmates were Taiwanese so we spoke Japanese. I joined university circles and participated in university social events so my friends were all Japanese. It really helped and was worlds apart from the bullshit 500yen meetup stuff.
