Buddy and I went to an Amish auction today. Here are some pics of what we saw. Was really disappointed in the quality. Looked like 3 or 4 families cleaned out their sheds and had a sale. The only thing I bought was a loaf of homemade bread and a jar of molasses.

I'm not part of a rescue. My mom just bought a house and is building a barn and chicken coop there. The man who is building her chicken coop is Amish, and he mentioned the auction to her. We went because she was thinking of buying a goat. We were totally shocked by the dogs being there, and the man building her coop was as well.

Lancaster County (22) Mennonite & Anabaptist (73) I've picked up a lot of interesting, and often delicious, items while visiting Amish businesses around the country. Here are my top 3 buys: 1) Hickory rocker. Technically, this was more "barter" than "buy". It was 2005, and I was selling books in the sprawling Holmes County, Ohio Amish community.

Reader Jerry frequently visits Amish communities and auctions. You might remember his posts on dandelion greens in Amish cuisine, a Nebraska Amish auction in Big Valley, the Amish in Burke's Garden, VA, and photos of a $9,861 Amish buggy. Jerry is back today following a trip to an Amish sale in central Pennsylvania.

I attended an auction that had items from three or four different Amish families. The auction was located on the grounds of a greenhouse outside of Lititz,

Here are 3 things from this auction that jumped out at me: 1. Food Out Of An Amish School Window - Food is not the main purpose of an Amish auction, but it is a big part of it. And for non-bidders, the food may be as big a draw as anything (this includes the baked goods and hundreds of pies for sale). The folks at the Clearview School auction

Mud sales are huge events where hundreds of items are offered up for bid. They are often called "mud sales" because they occur in the early spring when the ground has just begun to thaw. Here are some of the items you will frequently see for sale at an Amish auction: Quilts. Furniture. Flowers & hanging baskets.

Yelled at an amish guy once because their tourist attraction horses were majorly overheated and one was foaming at the mouth looking like it was going to pass out and it was tied up so it couldn't reach the water and the amish guy ignored me.. piece of garbage human.

MILROY, INDIANA: 55th semi annual Consignment Auction, Bake Sale, and Quilt Sale. This event is great because it is actually held on the grounds of the local Amish school, so it's a great way to experience the culture. The auction is Saturday, April 26 beginning at 9 a.m., click here for all the particulars.

This is NOT the Beaver Run Amish School sale, and it did not have furniture, livestock, nor poultry. It is a similar style sale, otherwise, but was much smaller. I have not yet heard if the sale will be held again 2024. 2024 Date - April 20th. The Sale is located at: Beaver Run School, 290 PPL Road, Danville, PA 17821.

I also touch on why you can find certain things easily when hunting them down. Getting a map from Diann at the Amish Welcome Center so you can go down roads you may not know to go and more. I also explore frustrations when some Amish only sell at the produce auction. I do hope you can learn a few things and have much more success when you go!

Went to an auction in the amish region last monday...they had a lot of woodworking equipment listed. I specifically went for the dado blades that were mentioned. Well, they weren't quite what I was hoping for, so I didn't end up with one of those. But, among other stuff, I did end up with

I initially imagined flashy business men meeting at a high-end convention center or zoo. What I found on auction day was quite different. My friend and I made the hour-long drive from Cleveland to Mount Hope and asked around until we found the auction grounds, or so we thought. We bought our tickets and shuffled inside the big steel barn.

GAYS MILLS - I went to an Amish farm auction last week, something I had never done before. There were several non-Amish at the sale, but the crowd was mostly Amish. I like going to auctions as a social event and out of curiosity about what's up for sale and seeing what things sell for.

I have four Amish-made quilts. I bought the first, a queen size quilt, at an Amish quilt shop in the Shipshewana area. It's in the Boston Commons pattern in burgundies, ivory and forest green with scalloped borders; an absolutely gorgeous thing! It was made and sold at an Amish auction to help raise money for a local lady who was fighting cancer.

The location is Garden Spot Fire Hall, 339 East Main Street, New Holland, PA, just 15 minutes from the Historic Smithton Inn in Ephrata. You can make a trip of it and stay at the Historic Smithton Inn for a night, where the quilts on every bed were bought at this auction!

You have to be daring enough to bid on what you want, but you also need to know your limits. I usually check out one or two Amish greenhouses before going to the auction to see what their prices are. Several Amish greenhouse owners buy and sell flowers at the auctions too. This year, I skipped the greenhouses and went straight to the produce

Yes, You COULD get a bad deal or ripped off by anyone. but my experience is with the amish you WILL get ripped off. I Try very hard to avoid doing any business with them. Especially the amish auctioneers but they are getting prolific buying up non-amish auction companies. latest scam is "silent bid" real estate auctions.

This weekend was the annual Amish auction to support the community school near where my sister lives in Wisconsin. The Amish are a religious group that do not use electricity or any other modern conveniences and dress in a very distinctive way. The auction is open to anyone and it is a very fun event.

Another way to find authentic quilts is to locate an Amish Quilt auction. Many communities have auctions to raise money to support their schools. I've bought two quilts at the Amish auction in Cannelburg, IN. They usually auction off around 125-175 quilts each Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
