Pulled out at 5:00. Washington, D.C. (14th Street): Arrived at 8:00. Had to wait for a connecting bus. Left at 10:00. New York, NY: Arrived at 1:30. Barely was able to catch the last bus to my location in NJ. And if I had missed it, the next bus was in six hours, meaning I'd have to hang at the Port Authority until then. It seems that the max out of pocket you could pay is $169.00. Looking at the Greyhound schedule, it appears that the best time to book Greyhound is just about a month before your actual trip. For example, a trip from Los Angeles to New Orleans for 5 days from now would cost a minimum of $208. However, a month from now, it would cost $119.

Motor-coaches like that Greyhound bus are pretty nice these days (more comfortable than any coach seat on an airline), but the riff-raff makes it a no-go proposition for anyone with any choice whatsoever. Plus, having to use the bus lavatory or public bathrooms and eat fast food for 4 days is brutal.

I think I had a cheeseburger 2-3 times a day for the 2.5 day trip. The one thing (and only thing only) that was kinda cool for us was we arrived in Boston at 3am. and we had a layover (or whatever the bus equivalent is) of 4 hours so we decided to walk around the city. Since it was so early in the morning the town was COMPLETELY deserted.

So, I took a bus trip back in college from Seattle to St. Louis. It was 4 days of crushing misery and horror. NEVER AGAIN!! Here's the kicker though. We stopped at a rest area in the middle of no where for a smoke and potty break. A pregnant woman got off to go to the bathroom as she was feeling sick. The bus driver gave her 5 minutes.
