Indy proper is pretty diverse. Downtown is, in most places but like anywhere else you have pockets of wealthy people. Indy on its own is a very democratic city. The difference here is the state govt is crazy conservative.Honestly if you live in Indy and don't watch the news you really don't notice.

Indiana is very conservative with a heavy Republican presence in Hamilton County where Crooked Stick is located in Carmel, IN. Carmel is a high end suburb with many expensive homes. A lot of traffic since it has grown. Cannot really tell you about the schools as I know very little about it.
