Your theory has one hole in it. Theres no elevator or anything other than a dead end on the side of the emergency shutters that sealed him off from the theives. Sure. There was a vent or whatever we didn't see to get to the elevator, whatever. It's just planting the seed, the player can fill in the blanks.
