In eco mode the hvac capacity is reduced (I seem to remember) by 20% from normal or sport modes. And eco mode dulls the throttle. The power is still there; you've just got to press harder/further to get it. I drive in eco unless I want max ac. I find it's easier to flip the mode switch than to turn off eco hvac on the screen.

IMO eco modes have the biggest effect when using AC, which it cuts back on, and thus could save 1 mpg or something. But this does lug the engine more when needing acceleration. Its been well documented that sport mode doesn't use more than 1-2 MPG more on average.

Been driving my AWD Mavi with 2.0 Ecoboost mix of city and highway, last week just about all highway, and best I've gotten at the pump is close to 25mpg avg. Last week I mixed up using eco mode and regular mode and the only noticeable thing I've found between the two is the earlier shifting less responsiveness to the accelerator in eco mode.

The only way to know for sure is to keep gas records in Normal Mode only and Sport Mode only. In Eco Mode mostly the readout is around 33 mpg with mixed driving with my driving style. I rarely use Sport Mode but fuel economy was less when I did use it. Truth alone triumphs, not untruth.

Try ECO mode. I did. Turned it off after less than a mile. Made my XSE more sluggish than my '94 pickup with a 22RE and oversize tires. Many report worse MPG in ECO mode than Normal or Sport. You end up "fighting" the system to get the acceleration you feel you need, and end up using more fuel than you would in Normal or Sport.
