Fuel filler flap locking mechanism, once greased, is unlikely to give any further trouble, so long as it was greased while still working well. You can grease it from fuel filler flap side using silicone grease spray, or silicone+teflon grease spray, and feed the grease while holding the bolt pressed into the mechanism.

Finally fixed the non-locking petrol cap flap issue, I bought a new remote locking unit for £19 to replace the faulty unit which is at the bottom of the boot on the rear panel. Easy job to carry out, other than a Torx no. 4 female socket is required to remove the unit👍.
