Hi, I find the Safari's too light with the cap off, but slightly too long/tall with it on! ( I use it 'capped'.) Can't comment on the Al-Star aluminium types, but the extra weight may be the answer, if it is heavier. Otherwise I find the Safari to be a highly reliable and smooth writer...my clear Vista 'Demonstrator' gets a lot of use.
