Including a lot of old Reichenbach Transformers that really have a good sound. I know the history with Reichenbach & Cinemag. I'm more wondering about the current production. Is there a noticeable difference in quality and sound? I see a lot of cheaper budget companies using the Cinemag transformers like Warm audio & Stam Audio.

Moving coil transformer : CM-1254/CM-125PC: 1:10/20/40: The CM-1254 is the replacement part for the CM-1131. The CM-1131 is hand made by David Geren while the CM-1254 is manufactured on the factory floor. The CM-1254 does go through final test by Mr. Geren. CM-1254.pdf (hookup)

For some reason Cinemag states the ratio as 1:20 and 1:40, but the actual ratio I believe is 1:18.5 and 1:37. The CM1254 and the 1254pc are essentially the same I believe but the CM1254 let you wire for the 1:10 ratio. Presumably the CM1254 is what that one company building the special devices are using.

Direct Box transformers were pioneered by Ed Reichenbach when he saw a need for converting unbalanced line level signals to balanced microphone level signals to feed long cables while retaining bandwidth and eliminating hum. CineMag has improved upon the original Direct Box transformer to deliver the highest performance available today.

Thanks! Jeff, this CineMag 1440A based transformer is made by Bob's Devices for $395. There are extra charges for alternate gain options, 3440AH transformers, or balanced inputs and outputs. Bob also makes SUTs based on several other transformers including the Altec Peerless 4722 that Deepak mentioned. McGruder, Jul 9, 2011.

Bob provides a handy information card that indicates the amount of step-up (in dB) for a given turns ratio and impedance (in ohms). In the case of the SKY 20, it's 26 dB/118 ohms (switch set high) and 20 dB/470 ohms (switch set low). It's important to remember that a step up transformer only amplifies the cartridge's voltage; RIAA

The Cinemag Sky 30 is switchable in terms of gain: low gain (1:15) nets you 24 dB, while high gain (1:30) nets you 30 dB. There is another version called the Cinemag Sky 20, which is switchable between 1:10 and 1:20. These options ensure that discerning audiophiles can acquire the SUT with the amount of gain most suited for the MC cartridge of

Haven't heard Tango, but the blue-label CineMag / Bob's Devices Sky lineup is excellent. They're on the warm / lush / fleshy (even slightly "bloomy") side of the tonal spectrum, but they'll still be more detailed than lesser (cheaper) transformers like the CineMag red-label 3440A, Lundahl's lower-end LL9206, etc. Pairs wonderfully with everything I've thrown at it -- Ortofon

The CineMag CM-1254 moving coil phono step-up transformer is the production line version of the famous CM-1131. While the 1254 is not hand-made by David Geren, it does enjoy the same final testing process to ensure remarkable consistency and excellence. The CM-1254 SUT can be wired for 1:40, 1:20, 1:13, or 1:10. turns ratio.

The positions that come to mind are: 1) in-between the attenuator and the amplifier boards (so behind the attenuator, but in front of the amp boards), or 2) behind the source selector, but before the attenuator (so after the output of the source selector and before the input of the attenuator).

CineMag Line Transformers deliver the highest performance available anywhere. If you require a CMRR that is so good that it can hardly be measured take a look at the CMOL-2x600T2 and the CMOL-3x600T2 . We do not limit our line transformer products to just one Faraday shield.

No, a passive DI is just a microphone transformer wired backwards. There is usually a ground lift switch between the two sides. There is a bit more to good commercial ones like the EMOs. The main thing is that it costs about รโรยฃ50 - รโรยฃ60 to buy one good screened transformer, but a built one is about รโรยฃ80.
