Hi! I live in Wilmington, NC and I visit our local beaches all the time. In terms of water quality, Holden Beach water is better than Oak Island Beach water because it doesn't get the down flow silt from the Cape Fear river. So the water is much prettier and cleaner in Holden Beach. Oak Island also gets bad beach erosion in certain areas, so be careful where you stay.
