The Sportster Iron 883 is solid and rattle-free. The paintwork looks great whether on the tank, frame, engine, exhaust, or wheels. Materials seem to be chosen with care and the overall fit and

Value vs rivals 4 out of 5. The Iron 883 is reasonably good on fuel and a full day of riding usually cost me around £20. The 5k service did cost me £210. In my opinion, when buying this bike you

it's just a good bike. The EVO Sportster will still be running when the world comes to an end. You can tour on a Sportster, but I wouldn't recommend it for 2 up touring. There's not a whole lot of real estate for bags and a pillion rider, but it can be done. I've solo'd coast to coast on a rigid mount Sportster a few times.

The 2022 Harley-Davidson Iron 883 has the old-school pure-motorcycle look pegged. Holding down the fort as the air-cooled Sportster line is fazed out, its twin shocks, peanut tank, classic

The Sportster didn't get slower, the rest of the world just got faster since 1957. The Sportster line dates back to 1957. Harley-Davidson photo. Weighing in at the curb at 562 pounds, much of it carried low, the Iron 883 is all about deliberate, confident performance. The combination of a 19-inch front wheel and 16-incher in the rear isn

The price starts at $8,999, so it's easy to understand why the accessible Iron 883 is often viewed as a "starter Harley," though it will appeal to smaller experienced riders as well because

It's an immediately more comfortable and user-friendly machine. At £7,495 on the road, up from £7,280, the 883 is one of the most accessible Harleys in terms of price as well as usability. It has its limitations though. There's no fuel gauge, just a low-fuel warning light, and the peanut tank is a titchy 12.5 litres.

The Iron is the successful result of Harley's Dark Custom range which was launched in 2008. Bling is the thing for some people while others think black is not dark enough, so Harley introduced the darker models and the Sportster 883 Iron became an instant hit, bringing in a younger clientele of "hipsters".

What Owners Like. It has great power and a smooth-shifting gearbox. Such a great looking bike, that I can customize forever. The price - yes you can get a great Harley for less than $10 grand new, and the used ones are a steal. It has great handling for a low slung cruiser. The 883 engine has been very reliable.

I'd recommend replacing stock shocks and seat. Ride is real rough and you can feel every little bump in the road. The stock exhaust makes it sound like a lawn mower.

The Harley Sportster 883 can be a good first bike for many reasons. For one, it's not as powerful as many other beginner bikes, meaning you may not have a hard time braking. Braking is one of the hardest things for new riders to get used to. You can make things much easier on yourself when starting out by picking a less powerful bike.

One of the nice things about a Sportster, though, is you can start out with a stock 883 that will be gentle to ride, but later you can change the pipes and air filter, boost it up to a 1200 or 1250, change the cams, etc. Guys on the HD forums say you can get 100 hp out of one.

2002 883 Sportster with 15,000 miles and not a drop of oil on my garage floor. I use regular 87 octane gas and change the oil every 4,000 miles. The only mechanical failures were front turn signal light bulb and highbeam indicator bulb. I replaced them, but only found bulb from an H-D dealer for $3.00!

Ergonomics: This is one area of the bike I have been disapointed in. My bike has mid controls and I'm 6'5. I do not fit on this bike. My knees are at the top of the tank. I sat on a 2017 sportster with forward controls and it felt much better. The handlebars are in a good position and my arms never get tired on long rides.

The Iron 883 is the bike that sits at the bottom of Harley-Davidson's Sportster line. It features a 53.9 cubic inch (883 cubic centimeters, hence the name) air-cooled v-twin engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine makes 53.8 lb-ft of torque. The Iron 883 has a low seat height of 25.7 inches when laden.

The overall simplicity of the bike makes life and concentrating on the road easier. The 883 is pretty much an engine with two-wheel, a seat and handlebars! Ok, ok - that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but not a big one. The rubber belt is virtually maintenance-free, which is a welcome addition in anyone's language.

Quick background...I'm 46, 6'2"/190 pounds, haven't owned a motorcycle in probably 20 years (it was a Honda XR 200) and never owned a road bike, got my motorcycle license (took a class that supplied the motorcycle) in 2002 but shortly after that my car blew up so I had to get a new car and
