Sync another oscillator to the guitar's audio signal and blend the two. Or use the guitar as an FM input for an oscillator. This could be especially fun if you capture a short loop of the guitar audio. For example (using Clouds), keep Clouds frozen except when guitar input triggers a gate (inverted gate to Freeze) and run the guitar audio into

Synth octave up at 50%, synth interval 5th down at 50%, dry at 0%. The resulting sound has a bright, quick attack—like a guitar, but you can sustain steadily as long as the unit detects your input signal, like a keyboard. Many synth pedals also have harmonizing capabilities, which further contributes to a classic, emotive lead sound.

To add to the evolution of the piece, modulate the tone as well as the pattern to prevent things sounding stagnant. This can vary depending on your sound source, from pulse width to filter cutoff or resonance. A slower rate of change works better here, as does subtlety, so attenuate modulations. If it's cut off, extremes can sound too harsh.

Dunnow John. where do you draw the line? "Electric guitars are an abomination" - Andres Segovia. One could equally argue that current "traditional" guitar sounds such as overdriven amps, or sounds produced by the type of pedals that were available from about 1962 onwards are all intended to make the guitar sound like something other "a guitar" as the sound existed before.

So without some weird converter cables it wouldn't work with a lot of modular synth racks. Some synths have audio inputs though, for running samples or instruments through.
