Cause the louis de funes pink panthers were slapstick, no that much depth to them. slapstick, but exceedingly well executed slapstick. Pink panther was an alright at best slapstick gag comedy burdened by being a remake of one of the best examples of the genre, at a time when remake cashins were common and very tired.

The movie credits Edwards as one of the sources of the story, which is fair enough, since the movie's ambition is to be precisely in the tradition of the Pink Panther movies.
