*deep breath* You said hot takes, this is possibly the hottest I can make, not that it's a fun one though, but if *I* suffer from "overly context conscious"...: You don't have to, nor should you, buy every fountain pen related thing (pen, ink, paper etc) just because you like it. You can, in fact, NOT buy something.

Fountain pen makers focus far too much on appearance and far too little on performance. Most expensive plastic fountain pens are incredibly unimpressive in-hand, and none of them justify their cost based on materials, craftsmanship or anything other than collector appeal Manufacturers who don't make their own nibs are second tier

While many hot takes are not intended to be taken seriously, and are made solely for entertainment value, some are more pernicious. What I mean is that there are a series of "myths" out there about pens and stationery - particularly fountain pens - that I am asked about frequently, and which have a negative effect on the community.

It will usually take about 30 seconds or so for the pen to become too hot, but this depends on the condition of the celluloid. If it is breaking down already, then it will take much less heat to flambe the pen. The time it takes for the pen to burn also depends on how close you have the pen to the heat source.

Posted September 6, 2009. I agree, you should be all right. I know that Nathan Tardif says that the bulletproof Noodler's inks should be kept from excessive heat, but I think he's talking about leaving it on a hot stove. It gets up to 90°+ F. in here and my inks have survived for at least 5 Summers..

Prep Steps. First things first—clean your pen! Seriously, it's the magical cure for about 80% of pen issues. Clean it up and try to rule out other suspects such as a new ink, different paper, or even a fresh converter or cartridge. Sometimes it's as easy as a fiber of paper stuck in the nib, or dried ink in the feed, so start with the easiest

Blue. Blue pens are fairly common in the fountain pen community, which is why we're putting on our tunnel vision goggles and focusing on the LAMY dialog cc in darkblue. This retractable, quick-draw pen makes taking notes a breeze and comes with LAMY's first two-toned, rose gold 14k gold nib, which matches the pen's hardware.

Store your inked fountain pens nib up to minimize leaking and burping. Uninked pens are safe to store in an overhead compartment, but we recommend keeping your inked pens in a carry-on under the seat in front of you. Ensure your pen is either nearly full or full before you leave the tarmac.

I do not agree that fountain pens are outdated tech. They are the pinacle of liquid ink delivery. Ball points, roller balls, and gel pens mostly use thicker inks, and it shows in the feel. Only fountain pens can give a smooth flowing and delightful writing experience, while still carrying an internal ink supply.

Here are my 9 ninja tips I've learned after a couple of years of fountain pen use. How to prevent fountain pens from drying out: Clean the pen. Dip the nib in water. Store your pens horizontally or cap down. Use a closed storage container. Move the storage location. Get a humidifier.

I've been curious about this weird instrument for some time now - the "Hot Fountain Pen" - is something like a tiny unkeyed clarinet, about 10" long. Adrian Rollini made it famous, along with the Goofus, when he played it in the late '20s and 30s on many of his recordings.

Don't worry about it. Don't leave them all day in a hot car or anything, but otherwise you can treat them like normal. They'll be fine. The worst thing that might happen is they might burp if you bring them out in the heat from the air conditioning, but even that probably won't. 3.

Hot Take . Obviously there has been a lot of controversy over Noodlers Inks the last few years. However, I just wanted to point out that a lot of Chinese pens are made possible by idealogies that are arguably as questionable as those held by Nathan Tardiff, and I would imagine that many of the same people who are opposed to using Noodlers on an

So I guess the shorter answer is, if you haven't used the pen in a bit or the ink is a quick drying one, maybe let the pen rest horizontally or nib down to get the ink saturating the feed. Thank you, I'll try this approach too. Search YouTube for "tune nib" and you'll find some good resources.

Flag: Posted October 15, 2012. I too am moving toward kitless fountain pens. I use a mixture of Boiled Linseed Oil and CA to create a hard shiney surface on certain woods. Some wood are dense and hard and do well with Tung oil or French oil or just hard wax. Keep in touch, I want to see how you do on your kitless.
