Many martial arts strip you of your natural instincts in order to try to teach technique. In cases like this video, or for example the punching you see in a lot of arts, what they teach you is actually worse than your natural instincts. So not only do they teach you nonsense, they remove whatever effective instincts you may have started with.

People tends to think striking styles of Martial arts is better than Tai Chi, which isn't wrong, but that's because when compared to each other they both are 2 different types of martial arts and serves 2 different purposes. Martial arts are ultimately a physical expression of the practitioner, so maybe you aren't meant to be an aggressive fighter and would be better off being more of a counter fighter. Palm strikes also make more sense cause you can also grab to pull hair out, ears off, gouge eyes, break fingers, and so on. Stomping also seems much preferable to any martial arts kick. Whatever you are stomping against a hard surface is likely to break, be it a hand, knee, head, or whatever.
