My accommodation alone in Tokyo was more than 1k (living by myself). You can save by sharing but FYI rooms are tiny AF. Everything in Japan is tiny. Culture is overly consumeristic. It's a spend spend spend mentality everywhere, and especially in Tokyo. Entrance fees almost anywhere including some parks, most museums, decent bars with live music.
