A canoe also doesn't have a top deck saving weight. (A kayak will always be heavier than the equivalent canoe because of the extra deck material.) Canoes also can be propelled many different ways, you can single blade (think traditional canoe paddle), double blade (use a kayak paddle), and pole a canoe (stand and use a big stick).

Plywood happens to be one of the normal materials to be used to make a canoe. Mark the pieces accurately. Fix the nails and make a curve. Take away the extra pieces. Time. If you don't have it, no amount of money or skill will make it possible for you to build a canoe. The second factor is space. You need some. Period. Even a small canoe requires 150 sq feet give-or-take. Third. A canoe costs money to build. Even if you harvest and mill your own wood I'm guessing you're not a chemist.

Trace the outline on the plywood. Cut through the sheet, following the outline. Attach the cut-out plywood to serve as the bottom of your canoe. T here is a humble build-it-yourself boat—a one-design, if you will—that is more numerous than any other, and that may be having a more profound impact on the larger world in general than any boatbuilding project of its size should. It is the Six-Hour Canoe, originally conceived and first built by Mike O'Brien in the dark ages, ca. 1977. Mike looms large in the boating world.

To make the paddle you need to get a stick about four or five feet long, 1 1/2" in diameter with a fork on the end. Cut the fork so that you have two equal ends about 18" long. Leave the ends of the fork spread and weave over and under with strips of bark or some wide bladed grass or water plant like a cat tail.

Step 2: Make Some Marks on Some Plywood. The canoe is going to end up 15 1/2 feet long. As 16 foot plywood is kinda hard to find, I will need to create two sets of pieces and glue them together at the center to get my canoe the right length. There are really only two main pieces that create the canoe's shape.
