Acid dipping is done to lighten up a part. If the block was dipped after machining, then there goes all the machine work. The acid has etched any or all the machining , making it useless for fitting anything , especially the pistons in the bore. It may have been dipped before the machining to remove any crud built up on the outside.

Posted - 21/02/2012 : 18:56:15. Hi, I wish to get my engine block properly cleaned so the hole from the waterway into the crank area can be properly assessed to see if it's repairable. I've been told that I should get the block "acid dipped" which cleans the block to look "like new", and cleans just about everything internally and externally.

3,390 Posts. #26 · Jul 8, 2006. People at my job have to deal with hazardous waste on a regular basis--I would want NO part of that. Proper chemical disposal is cost prohibitive to anyone without a 6 figure income. Toss the block & head into the pick-up and take em to an engine builder for cleaning. My opinion.
