Rip to a bin/cue or wav/cue as your archival copy so you're also archiving the cue sheet of the CD (the "table of contents" on the physical disc that specifies track start points, secret tracks, those weird tracks that start with negative times, and all those old Stupid CD Player Tricks), and store that away.

What's the best way to make lossless rips of my CDs?

First, there is no need to make two rips one at 320kbps and one AIFF. Just make the AIFF and then you can use a conversion tool like XLD or dBpoweramp to convert a copy to 320kbps. Way way quicker and much less of an arduous task. WAV and AIFF are not compressed formats. They will retain full information from the CD.

Finally I could rip my mixed data/music CD with AnyToISO. This application is quite expensive but to rip CDs it is free (the license is that they allow you to rip CDs for free, you don't need to purchase it). It worked fine with my copy of Croc. But somehow it didn't work with Half-Life. Maybe my copy has too many scratches. 💔

But I still want that high resolution file, that's the intended purpose. As Limnos noted, if you give away the CDs, by law, you need to delete the files you ripped. Pack the CDs in a box, ditching the jewel boxes for paper sleeves if you really want to reduce size and waste. Think of them as an additional back up.

5. As far as I remember (AFAIR), no extra software is required to rip audio CDs lossless in Mac OS 9. You can simply open the CD and use the Finder to copy the music files to the hard disk. The final data format is AIFF. This probably won't work for copy protected audio CDs (non- Red Book). Share. Improve this answer. edited Feb 17, 2018 at 15:39.

macos - What software can rip high quality audio from a DVD

In Mountain Lion, how do I rip only the audio from a DVD as losslessly as possible? I have several concert DVDs that I would like to listen to on my iPod. I have an extensive music library, which is mostly ripped from my own CDs in Apple Lossless format, so my best-case scenario is getting lossless audio off of the DVDs and converting it to ALAC.

Is there an easy way to copy an audio CD in Mac OS X?

1. Burn's "Copy" mode will write two files: a .iso and a .isoinfo file. After you've written these from the source CD, you need to load these back in to Burn to write to the target CD. In order to do so, select the isoinfo file, not the iso file. If you attempt to load the iso file into Burn, it will say the format isn't recognised; but given

3000 CD's To Rip - Why Not Just Record Them All To DSD With This

https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/22507-3000-cds-to-rip-why-not-just-record-them-all-to-dsd-with-this-instead/
Conversion during or after ripping is a folly. The CD contains 16-bit, 44.1kHz audio. That is never going to change. If you either record the output from a CD player with a DSD recorder (which seems insane to me) or convert your lossless 1:1 CD rips to another format like DSD, you will regret it.

Trying to back up CD collection for later conversion to FLAC

I use Linux, and find Asunder to work well for this. It will rip the CD losslessly, then generate any lossy or compressed formats you want. My ripping machine has 8 cores, so it will use a bunch of them to simultaneously make .flac, .ogg and .mp3 for me. I then use MusicBrainz Picard to ensure that the ID3 tags are all correct.
