On closer inspection you'll notice something interesting about the 9HP's ratios. Fifth is the 1:1 ratio where the output shaft of the transmission is spinning at the same rate as the engine meaning there four overdrive ratios. In contrast both ZF and Aisin's 8-speed transmissions have just two overdrive ratios with 6th gear being the direct-drive (1:1) ratio.

No complaints from me. I do notice the dog clutch from 4-5 7-8 on manual downshifts only. This does not bother me. It also looks like not many failures reported in the ody forums mostly complaints. The early version of honda made 10 speed faliures are reported there, nothing on the later models.

I test drove a 2020 a couple days ago and honestly couldn't feel too much of a difference, other than the 10 speed showing no signs of the rough upshifts

That weird shifting is due to dog clutch - when power flow is discontinued 2 times going from 1st to 8th gear (I don't remember when exactly, something like when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear and from 5th to 6th gear, same thing if going down from 8th gear to 1st).
