Yes you can hold a barrel in your hand that has holes & put items in however, in my experience, you cannot log out with it or you will loose all the in-put items. Upon log in you will only have the barrel. Test this yourself with non valuables and post you experiences. I'd like to know if this is what other people are seeing.

No point in repairing it. Just don't shoot it a bunch or blow it up. Badly damaged and damaged is still useful for storing or converting to fire barrel. Good barrels can also be used to catch rain water if you leave them outside and open. It takes a while to build up from rainfalls but the water is potable.

It takes 1:35 to fill a jerry can at a water well and 0:35 at a gas pump. It takes about 3:00 to pour a full Jerry can into a barrel, and 10 total jerry cans to fill the barrel. Once your barrel is full you may still store items in said barrel, but you will not be able to pick it up, and Items will get wet. Please like this post if it helped

Thanks in advance. For tanning leather, drag a canteen or two into barrel slots until you get the option "tan leather" once the lid is closed. The tanning takes some time and the lid cant be opened until it is finished. After tanning, remove the tanned leather and the canteens which are still full and there will be water left in the barrel.
