Jul 15, 2019. #1. Hi folks, Shot this video last week, thought it might be worth leaving here as it's something I've been asked about a lot following previous videos I've done. Finally got my hands on a Celestion Ruby to compare to the other three AlNiCos - definitely a different sounding speaker to the others but certainly has its strengths

Hey Guys, I just finished doing a shootout on 3 of the Alnico speakers from Celestion. I did two videos one using a Magnatone Super Fifteen for the Gain side of things and a Fender Blues Jr III for the clean side. The speakers that I take a look at are the Ruby which is new this year, the Cream (90 watt alnico) and the Gold Alnico which has always been my favorite speaker until this shootout!

Maybe it really depends on the amp. However, the Cream is a great speaker right out of the box. It is my favorite of the 4 Celestion AlNiCo's. Close follower the Blue, than the Ruby. I think the Ruby needs a little more playin'/ breakin' in time. I just got the Ruby, lets see how it sound in a week or two.

The Celestion Ruby follows in the same vein, but is mellower and better-suited for medium-powered amplifiers with its 35-watt power rating. Celestion's 50-watt Gold Alnico speaker has a more modern voice, with softer highs but greater clarity and definition in the mid-range, while the Cream offers 90-watts of power with an evenly-balanced and

The 50w Golds are very similar, maybe a smidge darker (EQable) but obviously a greater safety margin c/w 20w Blues. Celestion has the Blue, Gold, Cream and now Ruby. Blue 15W. Ruby 35W. Gold 50W. Cream 90W. They are more expensive but so nice. My Jensens are well rounded, nice lows and mids with clearer chimier highs. N.

It's great having the option of 2 different bright caps, or none at all. I will also say that the Ruby I put in my Z-Wreck combo is absolutely perfect for that amp. I'm a big Gold guy, but the Ruby in a Wreck is magical. I also have a Z-Wreck head and Matching 2X12. I switched out the Blue for a Ruby, and the Gold/Ruby combination is perfect.

Celestion Cream 90w 12" Alnico speaker | The Les Paul Forum

A while ago I'd A/B'd the Blue and Gold in my 1974X combo..... the Blue having the brighter sound. On youtube there was a comparison of all three in the same cabinet and the Gold vs the Cream.....the Gold was brighter. So from what I've found.....it's the Blue then Gold then Cream in terms of brightest to slightly darker sound.

Celestion Alnico Gold or Cream for a Blue Angel

Hi all, I just got a used Blue Angel 1x12 with the stock Black Shadow c90 speaker. I'd like to upgrade and am debating between the Alnico Gold or the Cream. I've read many older posts saying the Gold sounds great with a Blue Angel, but I think those posts were written before the Cream came out

Can't go Ruby at 35W with a 50W amp. I agree. Try a 12" Celestion Gold alnico. It can handle 50 watts and will probably give you a very similar sound. I say this based on owning numerous Celestion Blue alnicos and a 10"/40 watt Celestion Gold.

I suppose the Ruby's breakup is more like the Cream, but with a fuller, more pronounced, vocal and vintage sounding midrange. It'll definitely be smoother than the Gold. As previously mentioned, the Ruby is like a Blue, Cream, and 25w Greenback condensed into one speaker. Attributes of each speaker are easily identifiable in the Ruby.
