Basics. 1. armor piercing round is useless against big daddies and sentries cause there's no point of using those ammo for pistol and MG since electro buck doing it better and killing faster. 2. regular ammo for MG and pistol is useless from Neptune's bounty onward. use anti-personnel rounds or buckshot instead.

One thing I noticed about Bioshock remastered is that you get considerably less money dropped from enemies, meaning survivor is slightly more challenging than in the original. Bioshock 2's hard mode is rather a walk in the park. Infinite's 1999 mode is less tough than Bioshock's survivor is at the beginning, but I found the difficulty to keep more even throughout the game. In case that ever happens again though, you can load a previous save file, change difficulty and load up your current run through and still get the achievements for survivor. Hard mode is more of a test of perseverance and will rather than one of skill in BioShock, I found. Because you can save wherever and whenever you want (and reload unlimited times) there's not much of a challenge. But man, expect to die LOTS. Especially in the first few hours of gameplay.
