PUBLISHED Mar 9, 2023. 30. Conversation. Baja's draw is wide. A mere scratch mark in the schemes of great continents, its iconic shape jets like a missile into the Pacific and beckons with it the wild and the curious. Baja is full of dreamers and chasers, of ranchers and fishers, of everyone from real estate moguls to vanlife dirtbags.

Life on the Baja Divide is defined by a rhythm of riding, camping, and resupply and wild camping is one of the highlights of the route. Resources are limited, although the route is designed to encounter resupply frequently enough to make a self-supported tour possible. Riders may need to carry up to 2-3 days of food and 10-12 liters of water

Cape loop doesn't get higher than 700 meters above sea level. 700m is not that much, the temp would be max 3-5 degrees lower than at the coast. It shows now that Cabo night temps for the next week are like 18-20C, so nowhere near being "below freezing". I'd love to hear what experienced people would say though.

The Cape Loop is a 455 km circle at the very bottom tip of Baja and is logistically simple since you and your bike can fly into either La Paz or Cabo San Lucas. This year, I decided to go back to Baja with my Timberjack Ti and explore the Cape Loop with my watercolors and plenty of time. I set aside ten days and flew with my bike from Anchorage

So I was pleasantly surprised when our recent ride of the Cape Loop on Mexico's Baja Peninsula felt like the perfect blend of great bikepacking with plain old "type 1" fun. The Cape Loop is the southernmost segment of the much longer Baja Divide, a rugged desert bikepacking route down the entire Baja Peninsula. Of course I've dreamed of

On these days, the 11-mile loop road is closed to cars prior to 10 a.m. so cyclists can have free reign in the valley. Biking in Cades Cove is the perfect recipe for a memorable adventure. While it may be only 20 feet high, Abrams Falls is still a supremely impressive sight.

4. Sit on your bike and make sure you have clearance throughout your pedal stroke. If not, you can use the PVC elbows to make an S-bend in your rack support like I did. Cut your rack supports to length. 5. Dry fit your rack supports and make sure they stick out roughly the same distance, and far enough past the pedal.

Bears can be found throughout the park, but are easiest to spot in open areas such as Cades Cove and Cataloochee Valley. Go in the morning (6 a.m. to 10 a.m.) or late afternoon (3 - 7 p.m.). Black bears tend to be out foraging around these times, and an added perk is that the morning and/or evening light is divine.
