Personally, I think that in terms of promotion, Island Records is one of the worst record labels. They do almost nothing to promote their artists, especially their smaller ones

In my experience some of my fave good sounding pressings are Columbia and Warner Brothers. I have some very good sounding records on those two labels. For bad ,being a fan of southern rock I have a fair amount of Capricorn pressings which I find kind of lifeless sounding. YMMV. ;)

The worst has got to be Gingerbread Man Records, Ed Sheeran's record label which he set up with WMG. They only have like four signed artists (including Sheeran himself) but they seem to look exclusively for the blandest, most vanilla, cloying, twee bullshit imaginable.

All good points made above, as the talent of the engineers and mastering pros makes a difference, however, there are labels notorious for making audiophile grade recordings, so the studio teams seem to come with the territory, on the other hand, there are/were major labels that had the means to record great artists and music that in the end were underwhelming.
