A game company called Two Hour Wargames puts out a set of rules for different genres. The game system is unique in how it is implemented. Too true. I remember when boardgames in a hobby store meant wargames (almost exclusively). The same stores that were stocked to the gills with Avalon Hill and Victory Games titles back in the 80s are almost entirely devoid of wargames now (except lighter fare like Memoir '44 and maybe Undaunted--Root, but I don't consider it as such).

It has everything: it has excellent models sold at a decent price (a " starter set " is essentially an entire playable army and will only set you back a little over $100 USD.

8. The Sedan Campaign, 1870. This is probably the single best wargame I can think of to recommend to complete beginners. It's not the best wargame out there, but the rules are about as simple as they get. And it's actually an interesting game with a fair amount of variable strategies.

There are good rules for 1:1 skirmish, FOW are "technically" 1:1 in scale, but figures are mounted on larger stands representing sections. KGC is a step above FOW where a single tank model may really be 4-5 tanks and each figure is roughly 1:10. Command Decision is somewhat similar to KGC in play and is the same scale.

Song has the best miniatures, very good rules and good lore but no tournaments locally, just some players, and rank and file is a bit grindy the clash in the middle and just hacking away, lot of status tokens / card interactions so it gets a bit like a combo in a card game, also no 3d terrain
