This is the ideal mouthpiece for beginners and can be played on for a long time before an upgrade is necessary. The Yamaha 4C and 5C are really well made, extremely consistent, and are a great value for about $25. For this demonstration, I ordered a Yamaha 5C from Amazon. The number refers to the tip opening.

For a good quality hard rubber piece you need to be looking in the $150 - $200 area. Or buy used, but even then, minimum $100 for a Meyer or Link that isn't destroyed. FWIW, my suggestions for new mouthpieces are D'Addario Select Jazz ($160 -> $210, alto and tenor), Vandoren V16 or V5, around $150, or the 3D printed models from GetASax.

Tip opening and facing length. roughly relates to how free blowing a mouthpieces is: bigger opening = more free-blowing. also often relates to strength of reed: long facing curve makes reeds feels softer, big tip opening makes reeds feel harder. There's always a balance.

The Clark Fobes Debut mouthpiece, available for both alto and tenor, is a good example of this kind of piece. They will perform well, but maybe not the best for jazz and pop. For jazz and pop, the old standards are Meyer for alto, or Otto Link for tenor. These are about $125-$150.
