First of the worst cgi possible is used in berserk 2016. Second lack of emotions on character's faces . 3rd the shitty ass sword sound that doesn't make sense. 4 cut important scenes that are necessary for plot. 5 all the horrifying scenes are converted into some fairy tale comic. 177. Nope. Watch the 1997 anime first, it will give u the feel of what berserk is like. Even though it skips a lot of content, it has great soundtracks which blend perfectly with the atmosphere of the anime. And then read the manga from the start. 2016 version is no where near the manga and is probably a waste of time.

In spite of all that, Berserk 2016 isn't a bad anime. In fact, it's actually really good. The reason I'm writing this isn't highlight what's wrong with it, it's to highlight why its good in spite of those issues. I'll be starting with the obvious: the CGI. Beastars is one of the most expressive anime ever made and it truly had to be polygon based to have such active expressions. Even earlier than that Land of the Lustrous presented some great polygon animation. Even earlier than either of those and Berserk itself Knights of Sidonia was pretty good with its use of it.

I watched the 2016 one trying to like it bc i loved the story, then I read some of the manga, watched the anime movies, finished the manga, and tried to watch Berserk 2017 bc I didnt remember 2016 being so bad.... Ive just watched a couple of chapters, but i do recommend you to watch the bluray versions, its the same drawings but they improved the animations in some scenes that were really badly animated in the TV version for me, beside the direction of the 2016/17 adaptation, what was most annoying of it was the sound of dragonslayer (and swords in general).. its just bad.

Okay, let's finally talk animation and art. These two things are easily the weakest parts of Berserk (2016). The mixture of computer graphics and hand drawn art and animation are pretty bad. Especially when some characters in a scene are hand drawn and others are animated from computer. Those moments are completely jarring.

The ORIGINAL Berserk anime is fucking bad. Over half of the first 15 volumes weren't even adapted into the 26 episode anime. Dragon Ball is 16 volumes, 153 episodes. Berserks Golden Age Arc is 15 volumes, only 26 episodes. Over 120 episodes worth of manga content was cut and never made it into the 1997 anime.

Nobody is stopping you from having shit taste. However, when you analyse something objectively, you can clearly see it's faults. And Berserk 2016's faults are intolerable for most people. Movement looked a lot smoother and throughout the trilogy there are several 2D animated scenes that look breathtaking. There are also scenes like that in Berserk 2016, but they are few and far between. The "Camerawork" in Berserk 2016 is nightmarish.
