If you like Roto's, you'll LOVE DR FatBeams. Much smoother feeling, less clanky, and last 5 times as long. I think there is some truth here even from a Roto fan's perspective. Roto's sound great after about three hours and up until about two months (or less depending upon use and care.)

DR Strings engineers these tension using its Tite Fit/Compression-Winding tech, so there is a lot more mass of metal than the finished string - so what starts out as a .108 gauge E string ends up as .105 once when it's ready. ... The Rotosound RS66LD Swing Bass 66 will cost less than 20 dollars, and they're awesome. In terms of tone

How do DR Hi Beams compare to Rotosound 66? - TalkBass.com

Clarity and versatility are my tonal goals. Rotosound 66 = stiffer with rougher texture, aggressive tone. Hi Beams = supple feel, thanks to the round core flexibility, and smoother texture. Bright and clear but in a non-aggressive way. Fat Beams = the same round-core suppleness, but ever so slightly stiffer than the Hi Beams.

The E string avoids clunkiness, providing reliable pitch on the lowest notes, and for 5-stringers, D'Addario makes one of the few truly usable flatwound low B strings on the market (albeit a mighty stiff one). D'Addario XL Chromes are available in short-, medium-, long-, and Super Long-scale sets. (Image credit: GHS) 3.

They lend themselves well to slap too. If you've never restrung your bass guitar before, this set of Ernie Balls is a solid starting point; bright, but not overly so, they're a great low to mid-price string and a benchmark to assess other strings by. A decent buy! Best flatwound bass strings. 2. Rotosound Jazz Bass 77.

Ouch, they are quite expensive with the postage too. they are a bit more than Rotosound (26-28 quid depending on spec compared to about 20 for roto's) but DR start at about 30 quid minimum and Newtone will wind to your own spec. the postage is stated at £1.20 which i think is pretty good.

Final decision on strings...D'Addario, Rotosound or DR? : r/Bass - Reddit

DR mostly uses round core which will have a different feel, but are my string preference. For a string with good brightness and a fat bottom I would look at the DR Hi-beams for stainless or sunbeams for nickel. I only use stainless (mostly fat beams, hi beams on my short scale and one other bass) so not much experience with the sunbeams.

Nylon Bass String. The Rotosound Tru Bass strings are something special. They have a very, very warm tone. You can bend notes further with these strings, they give you a little more control with your pitch. The Tru Basses are slightly thicker than the D'Addario Black Nylons (also a quality nylon string). It was a tough decision, but I prefered

I feel the low A# could be a bit tighter. Currently I am getting 35.8 lbs, 40.6 lbs, 40.3 lbs and 39.6 lbs with theese gauges a total of 156.3 lbs. I am thinking of the rotosound stainless steels with a .140 for the low A# wich would give me a 37.2 lbs a total of 157.7 lbs or d'addario pro steels with .145 for the low A# wich would give me 39.4

Do any other strings compare to DR Sunbeams? - Basschat

The Elites fitted to the 73 Precision seemed to elicit fret 'tizzle', which just made the bass more difficult to control. By comparison, the MM's generate a smoother, more rounded tone. The Elites are very good strings and I used them exclusively for years, but the MM's have won me over. Hope that helps a little.

DR Strings..Sunbeams vs LoRiders??? - Bass Guitar - Harmony Central

thanks guys for the help, and yes Im a huge King's X dUg Pinnick fan. I like a softer tension like on GHS boomers as opposed to say the Rotosound Swing 66's but if the tension is only slightly higher and not like trying to bend high tension lines ala Godzilla, then the Lo-Riders and the Sunbeams sound like the real deal.

Gear. mr.crispy February 18, 2024, 4:04pm 1. I've been using LaBella Deep Talkin' flats on a couple of my basses for a while now. With the arrival of my new P-Bass, I knew I wanted flats on it from the moment I ordered it. This time, however, I decided to give DR Strings' Legend flat wounds a try. I love the DR Pure Blues rounds that I

Upstate, South Carolina. LoRiders are only higher in tension compared to DR's round core strings. Compared to other hex core strings, they are about the same. I actually find them pretty low tension. I now use a hybrid set of DR's on my Spector NS-5 with Sunbeams .40 .60 and .80, the Nickel LoRiders .105 and .130.

Tension comparison: Rotosound Nickel 66 vs DR Nickel Lo Riders

Feb 11, 2013. 49.8951 N, 97.1384 W. The Lo-Riders are "stiffer/more rigid" than the Sunbeams due to the hex-core, vs. the round-core on the SB. In terms of the actual tension (pulling weight on the neck), the difference between the two is fairly minimal. Meanwhile, the Rotos are also hex-core and known for their stiffness as well.

Rotosound Swingbass 66 45-105 long scale to start. These are roundwounds if you are into that sound. Would be great for your bass. These are my go to for all my basses except the fretless. Never been burned. Don't get too hung up on some of the advice on this thread.

compare Roto's Swingbass66 to DR Hi-Beam | TalkBass.com

A pack of 4 string DR Hi Beams is $35.00 CA , a pack of 5 string Roto 66's is $40.00 CA. Clearly Rotos win when it comes to cost. Secondly, lasting power. DRs are as reslilent as hell! I've taken off and restrung my pack of DRs off and on my old 4 string like 3 times, and they still sound brand new.
