With my Bearhawk, I built a in my hangar a 14’x 24’ paint booth using 2x4’s, 2x3’s, and furring sticks covered with 4 mil plastic. Filtered air going in; filtered air going out; moved by three 20†box fans protected by the exit filters (would have been better to use four fans).

The plan is to not overlap the boot cowl with the engine cowl. Thinking about using a 2†wide strip of 0.050†6061T6. Bead roller to create a step the same thickness as the combined thickness of the engine cowl and antichafe tape less the thickness of the boot cowl aluminum. The strip would be sandwiched between the firewall and boot cowl.

The nose bowl must be positioned in its final place and then firmly clamped in position so it can't move during the fabrication process of the engine cowling. The nose bowl should be spaced to allow a 1/4" to 1/2" gap between the nose bowl and prop spinner. To space mine at exactly 1/4", I used some wood blocks as shims.

If not painted in the colors of the airline's livery, the cowlings on all Boeing and Airbus jet airliners in current production are painted light gray, generically known as Boeing gray.

At 92 KIAS it was pulling 4.20 inches of water. At 105 KIAS it was pulling 5.70 inches of water. For my installation, a large cowl flap seems to do a substantially better job of cooling. Especially at lower airspeeds. At a cruise yesterday at 2500ft, 23 squared, with 108F OAT, this configuration lowered my CHTs from 430F to 380F.
