If you played D&D Frostgrave will be a natural fit. Yes- getting the wizard box and two soldier boxes from North Star will work well if you and your friend share the boxes. One speedbump to getting into Frostgrave is that it sort of requires a good amount of terrain. I would highly consider making your own or looking into papercraft (mounted on foam board) terrain. The boxed sets for warbands aren't a bad buy, especially if you are working on fielding 2 groups.
