I was an Aikido black belt for years and then one day I got destroyed by a BJJ blue belt. Little did I know where this experience will take me next...---Welc

So, in summary, the reasons for the Aikido hate, from my perspective anyway, are: 1: complete ignorance. 2: lack of sparring/proving in competition; cooperative kata-like training. 3: the amount of mastery required to protect yourself from a single unarmed opponent, let alone multiple and/or armed ones.

Aikido teaches multiple attackers like few other martial arts and also attacks against groin, neck, eyes, etc as as necessary as well as the important weapons aspect. If aikido fails miserably in the shallow end of the pool I don't think they're going to do much better if you toss its practitioners in the deep end.

Aikido comes from the same martial lineage as judo and jujitsu. It emphasizes blending with attacks rather than countering force with force, and utilizes throws, joint locks, and pins in a cooperative drill setting. Members Online • bryandg18 . One of the reasons that Aikido fails so badly against other arts (apart from a lack of athletic ability of its participants) is that they don't train to fight other Martial Arts. I mean seriously folks, if you are paying $100 a month to learn BJJ and MMA I doubt you are walking the streets at night looking to mug people you have issues.

I think this probably goes closest to answering Manny's question. Especially for males, power and strength is the 'go to' in any confrontation. In aikido if you go to strength your technique will fail. All movements rely on moving your opponent the opposite direction to the direction you want to take him. So much is counter intuitive.

It's fair to say that Aikido has lost popularity. To address why we first need to look at its history. Aikido was founded in 1942 by Morihei Ueshiba and like many martial arts its birthplace was formed in Japan. To understand why Aikido declined in popularity, you must first understand that this is rooted deep into its initial philosophy that

In a video that resurfaced online, an Aikido 4th-degree black belt put his skills to the test against a grappler, and the results were far from impressive. The video depicts Levent Altunbas, a Turk living in Australia, visiting the largest Aikido dojo in Vietnam. Despite his questionable credentials as the purported reviver of the "ancient

Most importantly, I have included 2 actual videos of Aikido techniques being performed by Aikido practitioners. The first is a police officer and confirmed Aikido practitioner; he even did an interview on an Aikido podcast which I am trying to find. The second is an Aikido instructor and bouncer using Aikido in security video to escort someone out.

Aikido doesn't work and that's how I realised it. Yeah, I know that for most of you, this is obvious. But her me out: I was born in a family full of aikidokas. My father is a 6th degree black belt, my uncle is a 4th degree black belt. So me doing aikido wasn't really a choice, it was destiny. For a long time as a little child, I thought this

"Some aikido teachers talk a lot about non-violence, but fail to understand this truth. A pacifist is not really a pacifist if he is unable to make a choice between violence and non-violence. A true pacifist is able to kill or maim in the blink of an eye, but at the moment of impending destruction of the enemy he chooses non-violence.
