Fwiw, i did rogaine/generic min for a couple of years ~13-14 years ago 2x/day. The scalp was itchy and the results were meh. The past 2-3 months I'm on topical min/fin (hims) only 1x/day and my results are much better than the 2x/day. Too many variables to say it's definitely better to only do 1x vs 2x but hey.
