I use electric blanket (throw 4 by 5 ) as first line of defence, 200watts. Second is a cheap Sunbeam heater with fan 700/1200 watts, with thermostat. Third is a 1500 btu , catalytic, propane heater for non electric backup. It is a Coleman Sportcat. I have an Aliner classic, not an air tight tear, so the catalytic is fine.

It can run off USB (5v) or 12v. I would recommend running it off 12v personally as it seems to give a little less heat on USB. But I upgraded to a regular heated mattress pad with 120v AC plug and power it off my little power station battery. I like that proper mattress pads have more even heating, more temperature control, timers, etc.

Wondering if their available propane heater is worth the high price of $1850.00 or if the portable electric heater/heated blankets would be a better option We will be living in Idaho and using the teardrop mostly in the Northwest, and do plan on doing winter camping with it occasionally.

Take the 6,000 BTU heater you linked, which is able to heat a 10x12x8 room. The volume of the teardrop is 0.075 as much as the room, so you'll need roughly 0.075 as much heat. If we accept 6,000 BTUs as necessary for the room, then the teardrop will require about 450 BTUs. But remember that your body generates 250 at rest.

Anyone tried out a little 12 volt heater for a teardrop? I feel like with current battery capacity and solar there should be a decent electric heat solution. I don't need a 70 deg cabin, I just want something to go from 30 deg outside to 50 deg inside and maybe help with the condensation.

Posted February 24, 2016. If you spend quite a bit of time in cold weather, get an Olympian Wave 3 catalytic heater. It is adjustable from about 1600 BTU to 3000 BTU and will keep your teardrop toasty warm. Be sure to follow instructions about ventilation, open a window slightly and the ceiling vent a little.

I plan to use a 12v electric blanket plus a good comforter. This setup (plus a flannel throw) kept the wife and I comfortable in a tent when it got down to 37 outside, so I expect it to be more than adequate in an insulated teardrop. The blanket only uses 55 watts, but the other blankets on top keep the heat in.

Was using a flower pot heater that worked very well. But was worried about breaking it in travel off road. So built a 100 watt electric heater with thermostat. My trailer doesn't need much. While camping in 20 degs if I'm in trailer it heats up to mid to high 50's on its own. 100 amp hour battery will run it just fine.

Another nice trick is to throw a couple of good sized rocks on the fire and when hot, place them in a double metal pot (like a double boiler). Makes for a nice exhaust free heat. Hi, noob question here. I've seen a lot of the "indoor safe" propane heaters that people use in their tents, trailers, etc. Even with ventilation….

In the camper we both just wear shorts and a t shirt and the small propane fueled furnace set to 50 degrees keeps us toasty. So I'd say as long as you have a quality sleeping bag, most any heater you choose will work fine. Especially since you're only heating up a teardrop.
