I have 3 ways of doing a walk cycle: 1: Simply getting the key frames down and move the model without the root, just moving the legs and pelvis. Easy to do but can take a long time. 2: Keeping the model in one place, then making the keys frames from there. When I'm done, I move the root, getting the model to it's location.

If you stop there then they just slide forward a step at a time. 2) To fix this, go to the halfway point of each step and raise the foot a little, then do the same for the pelvis. This will create the up-and-down motion. 3) From there you just smooth it out to create what you want.

I already know a lot of the more basic stuff such as the three lighting set, changing the point-of-view when creating animation set for current camera, posing models (For the most part) and loading voice clips for the models to lip-sync to. However, there's still the most important part that I don't know crap about - the actual animating.

It goes over the basics of animation, some movements, and what-not. There are plenty of videos out there regarding animation though, pretty much any animation video will apply to SFM, whether its 2D, Blender, Maya, etc. The biggest part though is to practice, practice, practice. You'll definitely get better over time.
