The James Gang was a rock band formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1966. Though the band was not a huge commercial success, except in their home area, the fame garnered by guitarist Joe Walsh has since made the group more notable. Walsh later joined the famous Californian rock band -- and also cocaine cowboys -- The Eagles and played guitar on their hit album and song "Hotel California". In April 1971, The James Gang released their third album "Thirds", including the live at the Beat club performed song "Walk Away". The "Third" album missed a jam with Little Richard, titled "But I Try", which was released only 41 years later.

This blows the doors off the studio version.

So, here's Joe Walsh, singing his ass off. The band playing perfectly in time. The song sounding amazing. And it's all freaking live. That's why I love the bands from that era. They knew how to play and could reproduce their records live. Awesome.

Prime example of why the 70s was the best decade for music ever.

Jim Fox was a beast on the drums. So precise.

I love Jimmy Fox's fills - he times them exactly to interact with but not interfere with the vocal and guitar lines, he sticks to themes, he doesn't throw in a million different tricks but rather a handful of things that perfectly fit the song. Such a musical drummer.

If I were going to be a drummer, that's the drummer I would want to be.

drummer is tearing up those skins. I like the way songs were engineered back then. The whole band was balanced and everything wasn't so darned refined.

Definition of a Power Trio. OMG - Jimmy Fox - what a monster on the kit ! How often do you see a drummer add so much - thrilling to watch such talent !

Live performance, still sounds stellar. This is how actual musicians sound.

Long, hard, frustrating day at work. Really needed this. Love this song growing up in the 70's.

There's no way to listen to this just once. Gotta hit that replay button as soon as it reaches the end.

Jimmy Fox was a monster drummer. I read somewhere he was the "greatest drummer nobody ever heard of".

I love how the drummer plays one long fill through the whole chorus. This video was my introduction to James Gang 35 years ago. Now the tune's over 50 years old, and it still stands the test of time.

In my mind, Joe is the definition of a rock guitarist. Amazing raw rock band.
