This new film offers a rare glimpse into the studio of Peter Doig, one of the most celebrated and influential painters working today. It follows Doig in the days leading up to the opening of his exhibition of new work at The Courtauld Gallery.

Since relocating from Trinidad to London in 2021, Doig has set up a new studio in the city where he has been developing paintings started in Trinidad, New York and elsewhere in preparation for their unveiling at The Courtauld Gallery exhibition.

In the film, Doig reflects on his move to this studio and on this particularly creative period during which he has made a major new group of paintings. Doig offers insight into his work, which explores a rich variety of places, people, memories and ways of painting.

Doig has long admired the collection of The Courtauld Gallery and in the film he considers the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists who have inspired his own painting and printmaking over the course of his career.

i have enjoyed petes work over the last 20 years but i think for the last 10 years he has become a part time painter and has kept riding the wave of past success , he hasnt really put the time in like he used to and it comes across . Having said that i still really enjoy his past work i think the atmosphere of some of his work pre 2015 are really mind altering and enjoyable , his exhibition in edinburgh national gallery was excellent i went twice forged my ticket for the second time , and he is a really sound modest guy all the power to him . Thanks mr peter Doig for your efforts.

I always appreciate a behind-the-scenes look at how an exhibit is put together. Peter's commentary on the works in the gallery, too.

This was wonderful, thank you, I have just ordered the catalogue. I would look at Peter Doig some evenings listening to Yusef Lateef from the late 50’s early 60s period; how remarkable to see Peter choosing Yusef himself for this film. Strange how vibrations move through objects and find a place in our mutual senses.

For those with an interest in such things. Looks like Peter Doig's oil paints are a mix of Old Holland oils, possibly Michael Harding, Winsor & Newtons artist, and a few odd tubes of Lefranc & Bourgeois.
