This Codex is a throwback to 3rd edition. I love it. Genestealers were always Elites and Rippers were always Fast Attack. Having Genestealers as a Troops choice makes no sense, because they're meant to be created from very specific genetic material of which Tyranids are short of. They're similar to Biovores and Pyrovores in that aspect. There was a massive emphasis on monsters too, where you could customise the statistics to RP them as custom Hive Fleet's, and depending what monster it was, you could increase it to S10 and T10, which was the maximum you could make them back then. Back in 3rd edition, if your strength statistic was double or more of your opponents toughness, you could instantly kill units with multiple wounds. They need to bring that rule back to counter trans-human so that massive strength matters in the game. 3rd edition Tyranids were so much fun, and I hope this Codex plays like that.

Seen a few batreps come up today, really strong is an understatement.. will be interesting to see what can come up to counter them, but overall another nail in the coffin for 9th 40k.. The sooner 10th comes the better, Though at this rate of power creep the guard codex will be hilarious!!
Anyway, love the new format on the reviews, great job on the video.

I love that my carnifexes are useful again. I missed my little screamer killer wrecking balls. I still don't understand what they are doing with the Lictors, I wish they'd give them back their invulnerable save from back in 2nd. Genestealers have bounced around from troops to elites multiple times over the editions, same with their unit size which has always fluctuated between 10-20 so none of that was really that big a surprise to me. It's a little weird that Hive Tyrants can no longer take any of their smaller guns (deathspitters and devourers), it's odd that they took away an option that's in the kit with deathspitters. I also don't understand the major overhaul to the fleshborers, I think it would have been fine had they just increased the range the additional strength and armor pen just doesn't really make a lot of sense.
Overall I'm really happy with the new codex. They feel more like the Tyranids from the lore it also reminds me a lot of what the nids were like in 2nd edition.

I'm very excited about this codex. So excited that I preordered it the same morning I was able to. After watching a few reviews, and the batrep you had with Winters, I actually feel like the army I've collected on and off since 2nd edition is now strong enough to hold its own against all the rest without having to carry around all the FAQs, various campaign supplements, White Dwarf lists, etc. etc. Even Lictors, which aren't the best Elite pick, are at least better than they were in the previous few codices thanks to their improved statlines and the addition of flesh hooks nixing vertical movement - handy for charging units atop tall structures. Shame about the Genestealer nerfing though, but hey ho. ...I think I need to buy more Carnifex kits for some nidzilla fun.

I'm calling it. Tyranids are now the OP psychers and let's not talk about Leviathan
