It's seems that BBC's unspoken motto is, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it", when it comes to their opening theme. They've been using this theme for quite some time. It's probably better that way.

Lost my dad to cancer less than two years ago. Recently listened to a BBC news clip and got reminded of the 5AM mornings when I'm still in bed getting woken up by this music coming from the living room. Knowing my dad was sitting down eating cereal with his coffee and watching the news. This intense countdown music playing and switching to the English accent news anchor. Back then I was annoyed and wanted him to turn the damn TV down. Listening to the intro did make me feel like I was in that bed again.
